Top 5 Vancouver Eats

Sometimes when the munchies hit, they hit hard. We’re back with another “Top 5 Eats” guide and today we’re covering just a handful of the culinary delights in the beautiful Vancouver, BC.

Speaking of the munchies, why not hit up Black Rabbit’s online dispensary because food always tastes better with an amuse-bouche of bud. For all the Vancouverites, Black Rabbit does weed delivery Canada-wide so order today to get your marijuana in the mail. Live in the GTA? That’s cool too, we do same day weed delivery and while you’re at it, check out our Top 5 Toronto Eats for When you Have the Munchies and our Top 5 Mississauga Restaurants for When you Have the Munchies guides.

Phnom Penh Restaurant

This Cambodian and Vietnamese gem sits in the heart of Chinatown and on the weekends, there’s always a lineup. Don’t be deterred, we promise it’s worth the wait. Phnom Penh has been the recipient of numerous “Best Southeast Asian Dining” awards and the menu has everything from beautifully translucent Trieu Chau Steamed Dumplings to bright and crunchy Green Papaya Salad and slurp worthy Dry Rice Noodles.

Our Black Rabbit recommendation: the marinated butter beef – order two, just because.

The Lunch Lady

If you’re a fan of Anthony Bourdain (rest in peace) and his show No Reservations then you probably already know about the Lunch Lady. A Saigon street food legend, Mrs. Nguyen (the actual Lunch Lady) has been dishing out thousands of noodle soup bowls and other Vietnamese delights since 1995. Lunch Lady is the Vancouver outpost of this Vietnamese treasure and serves up classics like Pho Bo (beef noodle soup) and Bo Ne for brunch (marinated filet of beef served with eggs, sauteed onions and house made pate on a sizzling skillet).

Our Black Rabbit recommendation: Steak Luc Lac, pan roasted prime ribeye with a butter sauce, pickled onions, watercress and tomatoes. An extra order of rice won’t hurt you here.

Mamalee

Betty Lee aka Mamalee came to Vancouver in the early 90’s looking to bring a taste of Malaysia to her new home. Formerly known as Café D’Lite, the Mamalee restaurant has lived many lives and has become a staple for Malaysian delicacies in Vancouver. Mamalee serves up rich, creamy and coconutty Laksa, fragrant Curry Rice and finger licking Roti Canai.

Our Black Rabbit pick: get the Hainanese Chicken. It’s delicately and lovingly prepared and the flavours are complex but comforting – there’s really nothing better.

Minami

A Yaletown favourite, Minami is the sister restaurant Miku and introduced Aburi style (flame seared) sushi to the Vancouver sushi scene back in 2008. Minami specializes in seasonal and regional ingredients and outside of sushi, the menu is home to inventive dishes like Kaisen Soba Pecorino and Aburi Bone Marrow Gratin.

Our Black Rabbit pick: Order everything. At least once. Seriously.

Ask for Luigi

This Italian staple specializes in fresh, handmade pasta and family style sharing is encouraged – more reason to try everything on the thoughtfully curated menu. Expect classics like Luigi’s Meatballs, made to order Risotto and perfectly plump, melt in your mouth Burrata.

Our Black Rabbit pic: Spaghetti Nero – a silky, squidy pasta filled with clams, anchovy, rapini and breadcrumbs.
