The Basics: How much is a gram of weed?

How much is an ounce of weed? How much is a gram of weed? How many grams in an ounce of weed? If you’re new to cannabis, you may not actually know the conversions at the top of your head, but a basic understanding of cannabis quantities can really help to inform your marijuana purchasing decisions.

What exactly contributes to weight?

Weight will vary from strain to strain given density and moisture levels (bud will decrease in weight as it matures and dries out) etc. so an ounce of Amethyst might look a little different than an ounce of Dolato.

It’s important to note the measurements below apply primarily to cannabis flower and do not apply to concentrated forms of cannabis like shatter, hash, diamonds, wax and edibles.

How much is an ounce of weed?

You may have heard cannabis quantities referred to as an eighth, quarter, half or full but what does that actually mean? Here at Black Rabbit, all strain quantities are listed in grams but below we break down the conversion from ounces to grams, so you know exactly what you’re getting with your next weed delivery. At Black Rabbit all quantities are measured using the double scale method. Our scales are calibrated every morning for extra accuracy and packages are weighed and reweighed on different scales, signed off and then sealed.

  • Eighth (1/8) ounce = 3.5 grams
  • Quarter (1/4) ounce = 7 grams
  • Half (1/2) ounce = 14 grams
  • Full (1) ounce = 28 grams

For comparison

Let’s say maybe numbers aren’t your forte, visualizing the quantities in joint (depending on how fat you roll them) and fruit equivalents might help, so let us break it down even further.

  • Eighth (1/8) ounce = 3.5 grams = 7 joints or one kiwi
  • Quarter (1/4) ounce = 7 grams = 14 joints or one apple
  • Half (1/2) ounce = 14 grams = 30 joints or one grapefruit
  • Full (1) ounce = 28 grams = 60 joints or one coconut
